Egypt The Arabism ... Iraq The Ajam
By:Saadi Youssef
Only in Egypt I can find the concrete facts. My friends the true cultured people enjoy their real prestige . Mohamed Badawi, in "Fesoul". Mohammed Shoer , in “ A world of books." Saad Al Qersh, in "Crescent". Dawood Ibrahim, in "Al-Ahram". Refaat Sallam, in the circle of the Egyptian General Translation Institute . Ahmad Mujahid, the manager of the Egyptian General Book Institution. Gamal Ghitani, so kindly provides me with an abundance of "News" . Ahmdabd Muti Hijazi writes so free ! (I'm not a historian I can’t count !) But I have to say I was cheered that Gaber Asfour became the minister of culture in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Every time I visit Egypt I feel Arabism every where. Not in ides, but in the daily course. You are in Egypt, here you are an Arab in Egypt, with no question . This matter is completely different in any where else. This question may be asked in another country like Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan, and Lebanon for example, on different levels . Such question in such countries has a cultural archaeological dimension , it’s a question of identity and history. In Iraq, the question is different. Is Iraq an Arab country? There is an old expression that can solve the matter, it’s called “Sheikh Iraqis” . That means “the Arab Iraq and Iraq of Ajam” . The modern country with its European colonial foundation is not the state of “faqih” , it’s a state of only geographical entity (may be a multi-ethnic, and may be not) . But Iraq is not new . The name “Iraq” came from Uruk. So what does it mean by asking about the eligibility of Iraq to be a complete state ? What does it mean when the Kurds and Persians get the authority of the state ? What does it mean when that the Arab in Iraq (the majority) are prevented to be effective in their home land ? What does it mean to bring armies from far-reached countries to kill an Iraqi ? What does it mean when the Arabic language is banned in the Barazanian Kurdistan , Erbil ? So, Iraq is only Ajamism. I’ll live in Egypt .
