Qalash : The Electronic Press is Not a Foundling
Cairo : HelloEgy.
The Columnist Yahya Qalash - candidate for the chairman of journalists- has stated that the online press is not “a Foundling” , but it still need some criteria established by the profession, stressing the ability of journalists' union to keep up with the changes that occur regardless of their size.
In response to a question about his attitude towards the electronic media, Qalash said, "Some issues need real conversations to resolve, including the electronic press and the conditions of its employees, and what concerns us to emphasize first that the journalists' union managed to accommodate all the changes during the last decades, and can not be content with the role of a spectator with respect to the status of electronic journalism. "
He also stressed that : "the need to differentiate between what is published by the social networks or blogs, or even personal websites, which is allowed by freedom of expression, and the professional practice of colleagues working in a disciplined institutions governed by legal working relationships, and apply them according to all requirements of the paper press. The first type has been the inhereted right of the community, But there is nothing to do with the union at any rate, and the second – with no doubt - is the future of the profession, we must open a serious conversation to agree on the standards and the clear requirements to join our colleagues in the electronic newspapers in the union. Rather than leave them to other unions. It is a very dangerous thing. " .
Qalash believes that the inclusion of them to the union is not the only legitimate decision of the chairman or the Council, but it is for all members of the General Assembly, and through serious deep discussion . "
He declined the hasty judgment on the matter, said that "a wide range of colleagues working in the electronic journalism, and through large institutions, for example, but not limited to Al-Ahram, News , Al Gomhorya, The Seventh Day, The Nation, and others", pointing out that these newspapers represent the future of press, and to ignore their circumstances is a big deal that can distroy the profession as a whole and turn it to chaos.
He also called for not forgetting the disasters of the constraint Union during the recent years, which added some people to the union , who did add nothing to it, besides they have nothing to do with the profession just because they signed contracts with some newspapers. Even if they are issued once a year. He also maintained that the lesson is linked to the existence of a clear and transparent criteria, and most importantly to those who applied them.
