The Oscar Winner Actress started her Career as An Extras in Egypt for Falafel

Believe or not, Cate Blanchett, who won the Oscar award 2014 for the “Finest Actress” yesterday, started her career by an “extras” role with the Egyptian actor Ahmed Zaky, in the movie called “Carb” for five pounds and free meals of hot falafel.
The Australian actress has admitted, during the ceremony, her overall works on the sidelines of the New York Film Festival in October 2013 - that her first work of art was in an Egyptian movie, in which she received a 5 pounds as a wage. She also recounted how she began acting and her visit to Egypt when she was 18 .
The Egyptian newspaper “Al Watan” has mentioned that Blanchett traveled to Cairo in 1990 where she met a Scottish youngman who offered her a work as an “extras” in a boxing movie called “Crab” for 5 pounds. She accepted the role out of her curiosity. Blanchit(45 years), says that : “the work was painstaking, i was to sit down on the ground for more than six hours to shoot only one scene, it was so loud and crowdy, but i was happy for getting free falafel sandwiches.”
The role she played was an American blond girl who encouraged the hero who was a dark youngman standing in the ring and battling a foreigner boxer. The director Khairy Bshara asked her to shout at specific times. And she did what was asked from her.
She also appeared in more than one scene in that movie, she also sang and danced in the main song of the movie.
After she left Cairo, she went back to the United States to perform her first roles in Police Rescue in 1994. After that she won her first award for her role in Elizabeth, which won for a number of awards like “Bafata for Best Actress in a Leading Role," and "Golden Globe for best actress in a film drama," and "Satellite for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama," to be nominated later for Oscar for the Finest Actress in 1999.
After that, she was nominated for Oscar more than once for her role in Notes on a Scandal, in 2006, and an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for her role in I'm Not There, till she was awarded as the finest actress this year for her role in Blue Jasmine.
