Bassem Youssif Insists on Playing with The Egyptian Dream
Cairo: HelloEgy.
The first episode of Bassem Youssif satiric show, which was broadcasted on MBC Masr Channel, has raised controversy even before broadcasting. That’s because the anchor Bassem Youssif dared to broadcast his show on a foreign channel to make satire on the Egyptian political situation, which was refused by the major of the Egyptian people.
Before the show was to stop from being broadcasted on the Egyptian channel CBC, Bassem had asserted that he would never broadcast his show on a foreign channel. So, broadcasting the show on MBC fired outrage among many political, artistic, and media categories, and also the major of the Egyptian mob.
It seems that productive problems forced Bassem Youssif to work for MBC Masr channel after many Egyptian channels refused to broadcast his show. Some people think it became a mere load on them, especially after the 30th June revolution.
Bassem Youssif used to make jokes on the national symbols like General Abdel Fatah Al Sisi who is now very popular as he is considered as the Egyptian Hero who saved the country from the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood government.
A press report has published that MBC has set some ‘verbal’ conditions on the anchor before making the contract; one of them was to “never attack the Saudi people or the Egyptian army”. But the first episode that was broadcasted yesterday was still full of satire on some public figures and indirect satire on General Sisi.
Regardless the subject of that episode, the show was “fabricated” and unconvincing on many technical and media levels.
Many people expect that the show will be stopped after a while by a royal order of the KSA least it would corrupt the strong relations between KSA and Egypt. The owner of the Channel is one of the kinsmen of the Saudi Royal family.
Some observers confirm that the stopping of the show is a “must” option at some time especially after the outrage the anchor caused after he insisted on attacking the Egyptian great symbols. Some people think that Bassem Youssif has a problem which makes him insist on “playing with the dream of the Egyptians”.
The Egyptian channel CBC has stopped the broadcasting of the second episode of the show few months ago. The justified that action by saying that it was because of some financial problems between them and the producer of the show. The first episode of the season was also full of satiric hints on the Egyptian army and the General Sisi, which caused unprecedented outrage against Bassem Youssif. It reached to demand to sue him and accuse him of betrayal.
The reactions have varied towards the show being back on MBC Masr, but some still criticize him.
The activist Ahemd Spyder has claimed that he had reached to the codes including in Bassem’s show. He considered that Bassem has encoded the image of the general, which proves the code he has solved before. Spyder claims that Bassem broadcast some codes aiming his spies to murder them to kill the general, which was also the same, code of “Fahita” the comic character that appeared in the first episode. The code was the photo of the general in the way he presented it.
In an interventional phone call on “honest” channel, the counselor Murtada Mansour has impended Bassem Youssif saying that “Bassem is non-behaved person, and I ask the King Abdullah how the MBC Masr channel made to abuse Egypt? Please respect the Egyptian people. The Egyptian government will watch that channel, and if they abuse any Egyptian citizen, it will be closed. Bad things will seriously happen for sure.”
In the context of the different reactions to the show, the General Coordinator of the Egyptian Salvation Front, Ramadan Al Oksaray, has filed a complaint presented to the Attorney general, against Walid Ibrahim, the owner of MBC channel and Bassem Youssif, the anchor of “Al Bernamig” show, because they abuse Egyptian Symbols.
