American Senator : Mursy Violated Human Rights
Cairo: HelloEgy.
The head of the sub-committee for the Middle East and North Africa affairs , Ileana Ros-Lehtinen , has accused the former president Muhammad Mursy of violating freedoms. She also accused his supporters of terrorizing the Egyptian people, killing hundreds, and attacking the minorities ; such as the Christians and Shiites.
According to the CNN web site, the senator has stated on her web site some details about her testimony during the hearing session concerning "the violations of human rights in Egypt". Egypt is still exposed to what she has described by "egregious violations" of human rights.
Lehtinen also added that during the reign of the former president Mohammad Mursy and the government of the Muslim Brotherhood, we have seen an obvious increase in violation of the human rights, as the government started to strengthen its power by ignoring the fundamental freedoms of the citizens. Huge number of journalists had been arrested and rules had been violated and a general decline in human rights had been recorded.
She also added that in the last July the Egyptian people has expressed their tiredness of the repressive rule of Mursy and his regime and his ignoring to the human rights, that’s why the Egyptian people had back to revolt In streets. She also maintains that after removing Mursy the supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood had terrorized the Egyptians through violent demonstrations that has caused hundreds of victims, which made the Egyptian army to respond "in the same way" while the transitional government has imposed strict laws to get some control on demonstrations .
She also mentioned that the Egyptian army has taken some steps to keep the security of the country specially to confront Al-Qaeda in Sinai, but the general security situation, the restrictions on the civil society , and the decline of prevailing law and human rights all prove that the Egyptians still have a long way to reach a truly democratic society, on her own words.
According to Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), the Egyptian transitional government has expressed their desire to protect the religious minorities but it didn't help in protecting the Christians of the attacks of the Muslim Brotherhood supporters, she also accused them of using the Christians as a "scapegoat" .
She also referred to some reports about kidnapping Christian girls and forcing them to marry strict Islamists. She notes that their threatens are not limited to Christians, but it also includes Jews, Baha'is, Shiites and Sufis.
And about the new constitution, she states that its articles , theoretically, contains some rights , but most of them still left to the law interpretations. So; it doesn't necessary provide more rights for the groups that need production. And in this concern, she maintains that committee that oversaw the amendment of the constitution contained only five women and four Christians out of fifty.
