They’re both chart-topping superstars and are bound to run in the same circles but unbelievably Katy Perry and Britney Spears came face to face for the very first time on Sunday night.
It was a memorable meeting for Katy who was so starstruck at meeting her idol that she couldn’t hold back the tears.
The Firework singer revealed to her Twitter followers that she couldn't stop crying as she and Britney hugged it out on the blue carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of The Smurfs 2.
The Smurfs 2 sees 28-year-old Katy lend her voice to Smurfette for the second time whilst Britney performs new tune Ooh La La for the movie’s soundtrack.
Both stars turned out for the premiere of the film in LA on Sunday evening, and whilst the girls made it a family affair by bringing along their relatives it looked like they couldn’t wait to finally meet each other.
An excited Katy revealed how desperate she was to see her fellow hit-maker, telling E! Online at the premiere: ‘I can’t wait to meet her’.
When the big moment came, the girls lent in for a massive hug before posing for snaps together.
Katy later shared her reaction with her Twitter followers, gushing: ‘OMG!!!!! I CAN’T IM CRYING.’
It sounded like the feeling was mutual as Britney, who looked incredible in her figure hugging Herve Leger dress, posted on her own Twitter:
‘So great to see you Smurfette Katy Perry! Can’t wait for our Vegas date…’
Katy’s love for Britney was also revealed as she confessed she recorded some backing vocals for Ooh La La.
‘Me and Bonnie secretly did some background vocals on that song,’ she told E! Online about the song written by her frequent collaborator, Bonnie McKee. ‘So maybe listen for our voices.’
Proud mum Britney, 31, bought her other two biggest fans along for the premiere, her sons Jayden James and Sean Preston, who starred in the video for Britney’s soundtrack song.
Katy also bought a family member along, her beloved grandmother Ann Hudson who gave her grand-daughter and her Tadashi Shoji dress a run for her money in the style stakes with her cute Smurfs t-shirt.
