Ahly beat Leopards 2-1 to win Super Cup for fifth time
Egyptian club Al Ahly have beaten AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville 2-1 to win the Caf Super Cup.
The annual one-off game is played between the winners of the Caf Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
Goals from Ramy Moustafa Rabiea and Mohamed Barakat put Ahly 2-nil up. Rudy Ndey scored a late consolation goal for Leopards.
It is the fifth time in Ahly's history that they have won the trophy.
Ahly started out the stronger with a host of chances. They finally broke the deadlock against the Confederations Cup winners ten minutes after the break when Rabiea scored with a fierce shot from outside the box.
Veteran playmaker Barakat added a second for Ahly in the 71st minute, running onto a pass from the impressive El Said Bekhit to hit the ball beyond Leopards' goalkeeper Gildas Kihouoko.
AC Leopards, who hail from the western city Dolisie, fought back strongly with a strike from their player of the night Rudy Ndey twelve minutes from time, but they struggled to score again, handing the Cup to Ahly for a fifth time.
Champions League winners Ahly had a slight advantage as the match was held in the military-owned 85,000-capacity stadium in the Egyptian resort of Borg El Arab, 50 kilometres west of Alexandria.
Before the game, police said that a maximum of only 10,000 spectators would be allowed into the stadium, even though the ground can hold 45,000.
It meant Ahly experienced rare support after the temporary lifting of a ban on their fans that has been in place since the Port Said tragedy - a ban which meant they played six of their seven Champions League home games behind closed doors last year.
The Ahly Ultras, known for their members' banners at home and away matches, boycotted the game. They said they will return to support their team following the final court verdict of the Port Said disaster, expected on 9 March.
