Christine Lagarde Quotes from Umm Kulthum
Cairo: HelloEgy.
The Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde , during her speech at the "Conference of Support the Egyptian economy and development” , has quoted from the famous Arab singer Umm Kulthum, and the Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, in a position that emphasizes the relationship between literature, art and the economy.
Lagarde has stated in Arabic, during her speech about the steps that the Egyptian government should take, quoting from the famous Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum which means: “the wishes can’t be achieved by mere wishes, but you have to work hard for them “. This was to prove that strong will is the main element in achieving goals and great hopes.
The line of poetry quoted by Lagarde is a part of a long poem called “My Heart Solace” by Ahmed Shawky.
And it said in the poem: “we were taught to build glory\ till we got the noble goals\ the wishes can’t be achieved by mere wishes, but you have to work hard for them”.
She also mentioned the words of the Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz , saying : “ the good person is known by his questions, and the wise person is known by his answers, which came as a comment on the Prime Minister of Ethiopia in his speech to the Egyptian president when he said : “ would we drawn together or swim together ? I’m sure that we can swim together “, which is meant as a reference to Renaissance Dam crisis which Ethiopia builds on Nile River , and the Egyptian concerns that it may affect its water .
Lagarde is known for her literary quotations that make her closer to her listeners.
Some commented on her quotation saying that it proves how smart she is, as she tried to get the attention and attract several categories especially for the bad reputation of the Fund in many countries, especially developing countries.
It is noteworthy that the Egyptian economic conference kicked off last Friday, with the participation of representatives from 100 countries, and concludes on Sunday.
